Be advised there is a three vehicle collision at the intersection of Southview Drive and Dunmore Road.  Traffic is tied up in all directions while emergency crews attend to the scene.  Please avoid the area.

Vehicle Collision 10 Ave SW @ 25 St SW

Please be advised there is a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of 10 St SW and 25 St SW.  A vehicle struck a pole and started a grass fire.  Emergency crews are on scene.  Avoid the area. 

Crews will be working on the power lines in the area until approx. 7:00 pm.  Barricades have been set up to ensure the workers safety.

Four Arrested in Brooks Drug Bust

Four people have been arrested and charged with drug and firearms offences after an ALERT investigation in Brooks, Alta. More than $46,000 worth of drugs and cash were seized.

ALERT’s organized crime team based in Medicine Hat concluded the investigation on August 19, 2020, with the execution of three search warrants in Brooks. Brooks RCMP and Bassano RCMP provided assistance.

Over the course of the investigation, ALERT investigators seized:

• 425 grams of cocaine;

• 42 grams of methamphetamine;

• $1,200 cash proceeds of crime; and

• prohibited weapons and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

“Shutting down this drug trafficking network is a big win for community safety in Brooks,” said Staff Sgt. Kelsey Fraser, Medicine Hat ALERT.

Jak Burchell, 30, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (x2), possession of proceeds of crime, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Brent Valin, 56, and Gary Valin, 33, have each been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (x2). Adrianna Mcsavaney, 20, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community can call local police, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is always anonymous. Medicine Hat residents can also submit tips anonymously through the Medicine Hat Police Service mobile app, which is free to download and available for both Apple and Android devices.

Break & Entre

On August 25, 2020 at 0015 hours Police attended to the Cecil Hotel located at 733 4 St SE for a Break and Enter. A subject gained access to the front doors of the hotel and subsequently gained access to the lobby ATM. The ATM was extensively damaged and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.

Male Charged with Aggravated Assault

On August 24th, 2020 at approximately 12:45 PM members of Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) were dispatched to a residence on the 0 block of Sprague Way SE for a report of a physical dispute. Upon arrival at the scene a 30-year-old male was located with injuries consistent with an edged weapon. The male was transported to hospital and is in stable condition.

Further investigation by police lead to the arrest of a 39-year-old Medicine Hat man, who is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing charged with aggravated assault.

The matter is still under investigation.

Vehicle Collision Trans Canada Highway Eastbound

Please expect traffic delays on the Trans Canada Highway eastbound between the College overpass and 13 Ave SE.  Use caution when near emergency vehicles.  Please avoid the area until crews are clear. 

Update   

The collision was a single vehicle that struck a lamp standard causing extensive damage to the vehicle and pole. The driver was transported to hospital for assessment.  The scene has been cleared.  Thanks for your patience.

Arson Investigation Update

Following an investigation into the structure fire that occurred on August 19, 2020 in the 2500 block of 22 Avenue SE, the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) has charged Natalie Denholm, 37-years-old, of Medicine Hat, AB with arson.

No further charges are expected in this matter.

The MHPS would like to thank members of the public for their assistance in providing information to assist with this investigation.

Assault with a Weapon

On August 21, 2020 at approximately 2:20 AM, members of the Medicine Hat Police (MHPS) were called to a residence located in the 1400 block of 5 Avenue NE following a report of a male victim who had been stabbed by a knife. There had been a small gathering of people within the residence when the altercation occurred. The victim was transported to the hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

At this time there is no general public safety risk as this appears to have been an isolated incident. The Medicine Hat Police Service Major Crime Section will be continuing the investigation.
