B&E East Glen Area Charged Laid

The Medicine Hat Police Service has charged a local man in connection with two residential break and enter investigations in the city.

On January 17, 2026, police responded to a reported break and enter at a residence in the 100 block of Ewart Crescent SE. The homeowner was away at the time, and it was later determined the offence occurred during the early morning hours of January 16, 2026. A significant quantity of property - including currency, collectible coins, precious metals, and sports memorabilia - was stolen, with an estimated value of approximately $150,000.

On January 19, 2026, police were called to a seconded residential break and enter at a home in the 0–100 block of East Glen Place SE. The homeowner was out of the country, and an acquaintance checking on the residence discovered the break-in. Entry was made through a basement window, and the interior of the home was significantly disturbed. Several items were confirmed stolen, including a robotic vacuum, jars of coins, and collectible action figures.

Through the course of the investigation, police identified a suspect. On January 20, 2026, members of the Criminal Investigation Section obtained judicial authorization to search a residence in the 0–100 block of Carswell Road SE. During the search, investigators recovered property believed to be connected to the break and enter incidents.

As a result of the investigation, Simon LILLEY, 50 of Medicine Hat, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Break and enter and commit theft
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Possession of a stolen credit card
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of identity documents

LILLEY was remanded in custody following a bail hearing on January 21, 2026. His next court appearance is January 28, 2026.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be considered as further evidence is examined.
