On December 12, 2025, members from the Medicine Hat Police Service Traffic Unit and Patrol Section responded to a report of suspicious vehicle with a male sleeping behind the steering wheel in the area of Dunmore Road and 21 Street SE. Officers arrived at the location and identified a 58-year-old male, Clinton Mayer, in the driver’s seat, an unnamed 64-year-old female in the passenger seat, and a 62-year-old male, Daniel Giurissevich, in the rear seat. It was determined that Mr. Giurissevich was wanted on several outstanding warrants; during his arrest, officers discovered a bolt-action rifle in his jacket.
A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of the following items:
- Weatherby .338 Lapua bolt-action rifle with scope
- Forty-four rounds of .338 Lapua ammunition
- Carton of black stock cigarettes
- Various knives
Following the investigation, Clinton Mayer was charged with:
- Breach of a release order (three counts)
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
Daniel Giurissevich was charged with:
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
- Possession of a weapon contrary to an order (three counts)
Both individuals were held for a judicial interim release hearing and remanded into custody, pending an appearance before the Alberta Court of Justice on December 16, 2025.
